The JVP will launch a series of public seminars countrywide to educate the people on the current situation and the future of the party, following the split caused by an intraparty struggle between two factions vying for party leadership. It would also be a show of strength by the Somawansa faction to its dissidents, party sources said yesterday. JVP Propaganda Secretary Vijitha Herath told The Island that they would kick start the programme on Sunday (16) from Kurunegala. The second will be held in Gampaha the following day (17). He said that the series of lectures had been named as ‘Aa maga saha ya yuthu maga’. JVP front liners General Secretary Tilvin Silva, Parliamentary Group Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake and he would conduct public seminars to be held in Colombo, Anuradhapura, Matale, Kegalle, Puttalam, Moneragala, Hambantota, Polonnaruwa, Hatton and Ampara Districts, Herath said. "The party’s rank and file and sympathizers voted for us at the recently concluded final round of the local government election," Herath said adding that although there was a crisis, as a party, the JVP was strong enough to face the elections successfully. |
